這首歌是為電影《The Hunting Ground》所創作的主題曲，希望世人注意到校園性侵是件多麼令人受傷及危險的事情。

MV講述三段女生受性侵的故事，藉由寫實的畫面與黑白影像處理，搭配Lady Gaga感性的聲音，讓歌曲更為扣人心弦。《Till It Happens to You》中表達的三段故事分別為，受到室友侵害、兩個在派對上被下藥的女孩、以及外表男性化的女生在廁所被陌生男孩侵害的故事，這些都是美國校園中層出不窮的問題，同時也呼應電影《The Hunting Ground》，是一部揭露校園當中嚴重被掩蓋的性侵害紀錄片，由幾位與事件相關大學生口述而成，主旨為尋求一份該有的教育與遲來的正義，這對於年少時期也曾被性侵過的Lady Gaga更能深切地感受到同樣的傷痛，為唱出《Till It Happens to You》加深一層感觸，也盼這首歌為遭受創傷的女生們帶來更多正面力量。
